Sunny Delight Beverages Company

No greenwashing here. The Sunny Delight Beverages Company has contributed their fare share of solid waste to landfills. While their portfolio of SunnyD®, Fruit2o®, Veryfine® and Elations® included mostly single-use plastics that can theoretically be recycled, statistics tell us that only 9% of recyclable material actually is. SDBC leadership took it upon themselves to reduce waste and, yes, lower costs. Pop was fortunate to be part of the team that explored how to decrease packaging materials while keeping the products’ integrity. How small could a label be while still communicating all of the necessary regulatory information? How could we reduce overwrap material and still allow the product to be appealing on-shelf? How can we reduce material from the actual bottles? In the end, wide-ranging changes were implemented that led to a reduction of 37 million pounds of packaging over an eight year period.

After reengineering and redesign, packaging was reduced by 37 million pounds over an eight-year period.
